Scott Gunst
Attorney At Law
Personal Experience
Scott has always had a passion for the law and wanted to be a lawyer since an early age. In 2012, that dream was realized when Scott became a member of the Pennsylvania bar, but the hard work had just begun. In 2017, with the objective of offering clients a better legal experience, Scott formed Biggs & Gunst P.C. with Brandon Biggs. Too often, people complain about their lawyer’s lack of communication and involvement in their case; Scott’s goal is to change that.
In 1996, his family was nearly killed in a horrific accident with a tractor trailer. As such, Scott has experienced firsthand how, in an instant, a car accident can change someone’s life. Though everyone survived the accident, their injuries were severe and his mom was left permanently disabled. The accident changed his family forever. Scott is dedicated to helping those who have been injured receive the justice they deserve.
Prior to moving to Michigan, Scott was an associate at the Philadelphia boutique maritime firm Reeves McEwing LLP. It was there that Scott focused his practice primarily on maritime and commercial transportation litigation defense. Scott’s experience as a defense attorney gives him a unique insight when litigating cases that many plaintiff’s attorneys do not possess. Having represented insurance companies, Scott is aware of their tactics and uses this knowledge to his clients benefit.
Scott earned his law degree at Roger Williams University School of Law in Bristol, Rhode Island. While in law school he focused his academics on maritime and environmental law, earning top grades in courses on admiralty law, marine salvage and ocean and coastal environmental law. He served as a Sea Grant Law Fellow where he researched and published two papers on hydroelectric power in Rhode Island and the legal barriers commercial fisherman face should they carry passengers for hire aboard their vessels.
Scott lives in Ypsilanti and is devoted to giving back to his community in any way he can. He is an avid cyclist and has raised thousands of dollars while participating in several charity rides as well as a serious advocate for the sport. Scott is also passionate about the water and enjoys boating and sport fishing.
Scott is an active member in the Maritime Law Association of the United States and serves at the Young Lawyer Liaison to the Fisheries Committee. As an accomplished author, Scott has had several articles published in maritime journals. Scott is licensed to practice in both the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the State of New Jersey and is awaiting admission in Michigan.
